50 Years and Counting!

The chorus celebrates its 50th anniversary.

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, the Toronto Accolades celebrated its 50th anniversary in Harmony, Inc. by inviting all of its former members and its friends from other choruses to a party. The celebration was held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church near Bayview and Sheppard in Toronto.

At least 50 former members were back to celebrate and re-connect with people they hadn’t seen for many years. Joan Chapman and Mary Jo McInerney, both founding members of the Accolades 50 years ago, were there to blow out the candles and cut the birthday cake. Bev Jackson took us back over the chorus’s history, 45 years of which she could attest to personally. And the Accolqdes sang, as did four quartets from various choruses. There was an abundance of food, fun and fellowship. Our thanks to all who came out to help us celebrate.

Founded in 1968, Toronto Accolades is an all-female a cappella choral group singing four-part harmony in the barbershop style. We are members of Harmony, Inc., an international organization promoting friendship and personal growth through music and music education. Our repertoire includes a variety of music, both old and new, fast and slow. We put on shows, compete at Harmony, Inc. annual contests, and perform within the community.
